Joshua Rush is a 50-year old trapped in a 16-year old’s body.

At least, that’s what he’ll tell you.

The player and star of the Disney Channel’s “Andi Mack” (which premieres tonight for its third season), says he’s a complete news junkie, and will consume his entire date poring over every story, scanning MSNBC to Breitbart where the truth “is somewhere in the middle.” He’ll then move on to the New York Times, Washington Post, and catch up on the Economist, Fox News, the Wall Street Journal. “That’s just to name a few,” he says.

Indeed, when I meet the precocious young person at his favorite coffee shop concealed in Culver Capital, in Los Angeles, he’s sounding off on politics – his main fire – and how “kids are scared of it – it’s very alienating.” His love of the news has led to his recurring Instagram video series, “News in a Rush,” where he dissects the day’s subjects in under a minute.

“I’ve talked about all different kinds of subjects and provide just facts – kids are going to be capable to come up with their control opinions,” he says.

“Andi Mack” star Joshua Rush knew when he signed on to play Cyrus Goodman, a friend of Andi Mack, that his character would stand out in the children's demonstrate . But it was when fans started reaching out to Rush that he realized the significance of his storyline to viewers.

Rush’s traits comes out as gay in the show, a first for a Disney Channel role.

“I’m really proud to be able to compete Cyrus. I reflect it’s an thrilling role to be able to engage for Disney,” Rush told "Good Morning America." “But I think more than anything, it’s an exciting role for these kids that are going to end up seeing Cyrus on their screen and going, ‘Oh, that’s me! I recognize that and I perceive that and I resonate with that.' I think it shows those kids that their stories are valid.”

The show's fans had an immediate reaction to his character's coming out. Many started sharing their hold stories through letters, emails and social media posts. Rush remembers one letter that particularly stood out.

Disney Channel star Joshua Rush has come out as bisexual.

The actor tweeted on Tuesday that despite playing a gay character, Cyrus, on "Andi Mack," it was difficult for him to be public about his sexuality.

He added that he suffered from "internalized homophobia" that led to an "existential crisis," but now, "I release it into the world."

"Being bi isn't all of my identity, nor is it the most important part of my identity," Rush tweeted. "Bi erasure and issues like it are important, but trans women of color still contain a life expectancy of THIRTY FIVE YEARS and that is absolutely unacceptable."

Rush, 17, made history last year when his "Andi Mack" character came out as gay, becoming the first Disney Channel ethics ever to do so. The positive response from fans was inspirational, he said.

"Instead of feeling the courage to tell you today that I am an out and confident bisexual man because of the character I played for four years, I feel that courage thinking of all of you, who felt emboldened by Cyrus to come out," he wrote.
