in the BNHA fandom, as in any big fandom, there’s a lot of discussion going on surrounding the subject of whether slash ships will end up canon. this conversation is as old as the hills, happens in every fandom, it can be lots of pleasurable, and I’m not trying to conclude it!
but as your local fandom elder who over the course of the last 20 years has consumed more shonen manga/anime than you can call, I still wanna add my two cents to the discussion of BakuDeku canon likeliness, maybe dampen some expectations, but ultimately also bring you some good news.
I don’t think BakuDeku will become canon. but I also don’t think it should matter to you whether it does.
just the other afternoon, I saw someone say that Deku and Bakugo creature narrative foils might point to them becoming canon endgame. and to whoever said that, praise your soul. I wish I had your optimism. because you are right: if this was about which affair is the most pivotal to both characters and the entire plot, BakuDeku would without question be the one to end up canon. but here’s what you require to understand: generally,

Bakugo himself doesn’t understand Deku’s feelings towards him, which has always make him angry. He expects the normal, what everyone would: hating him, rejecting him, instead of following him (the main reason why he continued with his behavior was bc he wanted to keep Deku far away, while the other didn’t listen nor took into consideration his own good being, always taking without responding or doing anything; this response was interpreted as an insult, enjoy the kid that wouldn’t use his quirk when Bakugo and Todoroki were retaking their exam). Im pretty sure canon Bakugo would actually agree with many antis in this aspect: “why doesn’t he hate me?? He should do it, it’s what makes sense”.
He thought Deku always hated him all along bc having positive feelings towards him doesn’t enter the binary narrative of their world. Deku hating Bakugō was what he thought is accurate bc it’s what would make sense from this perspective, the same one antis have.
