Paeonia 'Gay Paree'

A really impressive and joyful peony, with large saucer shaped flowers of bright cerise pink which cup a centre of tufted narrow alabaster petals. A shorter growing peony to around 75cm making it ideal for the more exposed border. This pleasant peony is always very popular. (Auten 1933).

The magenta pink guard petals hug a thick cluster of soft pink to cream staminoids (inner petals). As the anemone shaped blooms mature, the softer pink becomes more dominant. The flowers have a delightful, sweet fragrance.

Mid to late season flowers on robust stems that are superb for picking. This all time favourite was bred by Auten in 1933. In 2023 it took out the Gold for the American Peony Population. In 2014 it claimed gold for the Awarded of Landscape Merit.

Gay Pareeis a Chinese peonywhose flowers resemble cheerful dancers of stained can-can in Moulin Rouge and their even dirtier underskirts. They are unruffled of a unattached colour fuchsia pink skirt with multiple underskirts of creamy white colour with rosy pink ribbons. Very special and very eye-catching. Isn’t that what can-can was all about? Flowers are fragrant, open from about mid May until early June atop 70-80 cm high stems which are strong enough not to require staking. Deciduous leaves are rather thick, profound green, glossy, and palmately divided.
