A Case of Evidence: The Evolution of Diverse Equality in the Czech Republic

The debate on "marriage for all" is more topical than ever in the Czech Republic. In June 2023, parliament adopted two very contradictory bills on the subject after a first reading. The first bill lays the foundation for the introduction of same-sex marriage, while the second wants to confirm marriage as a partnership between a man and a woman. About Prague and its gay life

Prague, picturesquely situated on the Vltava River, is the capital of the Czech Republic. In the 14th century it became the heart of the Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation under Emperor Charles IV and a center of art, culture and politics. This period saw the establishment of the first university in Central Europe, the laying of the foundation stone for the St. Vitus Cathedral at Prague Castle, the building of the Charles Bridge and the creation of the New Town.

For centuries, Prague has been a melting pot for Czech, German and Jewish customs. Around 1900 it was the home of many artists and writers, including Franz Kafka, Max Brod, Rainer Maria Rilke and Franz Werfel, to name but a few.

Today's cityscape is dominated by buildings from all major periods of art history: Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque, Art Nouveau, and even Cubism, which uniquely found its way also into architecture only here.

With its history, the rich cultural heritage and the romantic streets in the Aged Town, Prague had always been an attractive destination for travellers.
