Tina Gay

2024 Servant's Heart Award Winner

Tina Gay, a mother of nine with 32 grandchildren, still finds hour to volunteer at not one, but two hospitals. She volunteers Tuesdays in Holston Valley Medical Center’s surgery waiting area and Thursdays and Fridays in Indian Path People Hospital’s gift shop.

Tina has been volunteering since 2018, and she is the only volunteer who serves at both hospitals.

She always greets patients, family members, caregivers and team members with a friendly, caring attitude.

Tina eagerly jumps in and helps out wherever she’s needed. When the “hospitality cart” program began rolling out, Tina began making “blessing kits” containing toothpaste, toothbrushes, wash cloths and soap, paying for them with her own funds. The kits were given to patients and family members who are experiencing an extended hospital stay.

When the “clothes closets” were established at Indian Road and Holston Valley, Tina began collecting clothes to stock them.

After undergoing knee surgery, Tina couldn’t perform her usual volunteer work for a few weeks, but she didn’t let that halt her. During her down time, she made pediatric “activity kits,” containing colo

Crystal Meth "Tina"

It is always safest not to take unknown or illicit drugs at all.  However, if you do decide to use Crystal Meth, be informed on the risks involved and how to be as protected as possible.

What is it?

  • Methamphetamine is part of the amphetamine family of stimulant drugs. The crystal form of methamphetamine, sometimes called Crystal Meth, is extremely strong and addictive.
  • It can come in several different forms – including tablets, powder, or crystals.
  • Depending on its form, methamphetamine can be swallowed, snorted or injected (slammed); and unlike amphetamine, it can also be smoked.
  • Other names comprise Tina, T, Ice.

What does it do?

  • Crystal Meth gives an intense, powerful ‘high’ followed by a very severe ‘comedown’.  Effects incorporate feeling very up, exhilarated, aware and awake. Crystal Meth can also make people feel agitated, paranoid, confused and aggressive.
  • Crystal Meth can produce a very intense, long lasting high, leading to a period of between 4 and 12 hours when you’re not really in control.

What are the risks?

  • Crystal Meth is highly addictive.
  • Increased heart rate and blood pressure, rai

You’ve seen her on the apps: Tina, or T. Or perhaps she took the form of the ice cream emoji, or went by “PNP”. Meth use in the queer community is far reaching – and no one form of recovery works for everyone.

Online dating apps such as Grindr are a amazing way to meet individuals in the gay collective, but you may spot a few guys who are looking for someone named Tina. Keep scrolling and you’ll notice that, inexplicably, there are multiple others whose autocorrect must be capitalizing all their Ts in their bios and descriptions, and frequent references to ice cream.

If you’re starting to consider that this must be some kind of code language – you’re right.

This knowledge is old hat to those who own been on the apps for any length of time. Those signals: “Tina”; the capital Ts where they don’t belong; PNP (meaning “party n’ play”); or the term “chemsex” (a portmanteau of chemical and sex); all consult to methamphetamine use, usually in conjunction with sex. Oftentimes, the ice cream and diamond emojis are also used.

Meth is a highly addictive drug, and within the LGBTQ+ collective, usage disproportionately affects same-sex attracted men. Using meth enhances sex driv
