How one Cincinnatian gave Marvin Gaye III a second chance at life
It was simply "out of habit" that Rick Greene flipped on his television when he returned abode one night in February of 2014.
He was settling in after a late hours out at the theater with his wife Stephanie, when he pushed the power button on his remote, and instead of the featured program becoming background noise, this time, he was listening intently to what was airing. The television was position to Entertainment Tonight and a recognizable meet appeared.
Marvin Gaye III, the son of the late Marvin Gaye Jr., a legendary singer who helped pioneer the sounds of the Motown musical movement, was featured on the show that night. Shortly after Greene locked in on the screen, he realized he was listening to a plea for help.
The program revealed that Gaye, a singer and song producer, needed a brand-new kidney and a national search for a matching donor had already begun. Gaye had been receiving dialysis for renal failure for three years, and previous attempts to match with a number of donors proved unsuccessful.
