Stacey Abrams is first black female nominee for governor

A former Georgia lawmaker and author has taken a major step towards becoming the first ever African-American female governor of a US state.

Stacey Abrams won the Democratic Party primary on Tuesday, telling voters that trying to "convert" Republicans into Democrats had previously failed.

A Democrat has not held the red state's governor's mansion since 2003.

Ms Abrams, 44, will deal with a Republican candidate in the high-stakes mid-term contest in November.

Lt Gov Casey Cagle won the Republican main on Tuesday, and will face Georgia's secretary of express Brian Kemp in a run-off on 24 July to decide her eventual opponent.

If elected in the deeply conservative state, Ms Abrams would get the first lady and the first person from an ethnic minority to lead the southern state.

In honor of National Hero’s Day on August 27, I have decided to express my gratitude for former Minority Head of the Georgia House of Representatives Stacey Abrams.

When I first heard about her, she had won the Democratic nominee for Georgia Governor – the first African American woman to achieve this type of nomination in the U.S.

I thought, “Wow this beautiful black woman did this? In Georgia?”

I heard her speak, and she spoke about helping all Georgians especially the marginalized. At this point, I did not know she was a lesbian.

I found out she was a lesbian after I recently did an internet find for black LGBT+ candidates. I was thrilled her sexual self did not make the headlines.

I feel sometimes the media will focus on an LGBT+ person’s identity instead of their achievements. Their sexual or gender identity is only one component of who they are. Once the public knows a candidate is LGBT+, they tend to only focus on their culture which is counterproductive to them learning about their platform.

Stacey Abrams has managed to command her image and let people know she means business when it comes to bettering the liv

“The Human Rights Campaign is proud and elated to endorse Stacey Abrams for governor of Georgia. She is a proven leader and an inspirational figure, both nationally and among Georgians. Very limited people predicted that the voter registration and outreach efforts she led in Georgia for the 2020 election would result in pro-equality victories for the presidential and U.S. Senate candidates — but she knew that the articulate was primed for a new direction. She has been a strong ally to the LGBTQ+ collective, as she fought against regr

ATLANTA – Saturday night, the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), the nation’s largest lesbian, gay, attracted to both genders, transgender and lgbtq+ (LGBTQ+) civil rights organization, hosted its Atlanta Dinner. The event featured a speech from Stacey Abrams, whom HRC endorsed for Governor of Georgia last month. Stacey Abrams is a proven leader and an inspirational figure whose voting rights group partnered with HRC in the 2020 election to shield the rights of LGBTQ+ voters nationwide. Abrams has been a strong ally to the Gay community, as she fought against regressive, anti-equality legislation during her time in the Georgia Property of Representatives and supported policies prefer nondiscrimination protections for LGBTQ+ Georgians and marriage equality.

The evening also included remarks from the Mayor of Atlanta Andre Dickens, who has been a staunch LGBTQ+ advocate in his position.
