Country music star T.J. Osborne, one half of the duo Brothers Osborne, is ready to exist his truth by officially coming out as gay.
In a trademark new interview with Time, Osborne revealed that he has been out to family and friends for a few years, and is now deciding to tell the relax of the world and his fans. “I’m very comfortable being gay,” he said. “I find myself being guarded for not wanting to talk about something that I personally don’t have a problem with. That feels so strange.”
By coming out publicly, Osborne becomes one of very not many openly gay country artists to be signed to a major label (EMI Nashville). Osborne said that while he feels his sexuality is his business, he does want to help be an example for others. “People will ask, ‘Why does this even need to be talked about?’ and personally, I accept with that,” he said. “But for me to show up at an awards show with a man would be jaw-dropping to people. It wouldn’t be like, ‘Oh, cool!'”

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- It was a distinct night for T.J. Osborne.
He and his brother John perform as the Brothers Osborne and won vocal duo of the year at the 2021 Territory Music Association Awards.
It was their fourth time taking home that trophy.
T.J. Osborne, who publicly shared for the first time in February that he is gay, kissed his boyfriend/girlfriend Abi Ventura after the win was announced whle his brother kissed his wife, Lucie Silvas.
"I explain you, every time we have won this award, it has never, ever ceased to be extremely shocking," T.J. Osborne said.
Chris Stapleton was the giant winner with six trophies and Luke Combs won the biggest prize with entertainer of the year.
He then thanked everyone, including the voters.
"It's been a crazy roller coaster of a year for us in so many ways, especially for me emotionally," Osborne said. "And to have you all aid me, it really does feel like love wins tonight. Thank you."

Brothers Osborne won their first Grammy Sunday for the sibling duo’s song “Younger Me,” and that wasn’t the only first — it’s the first region song with an LGBTQ+ theme to win an award in the history of the ceremony.
“For those of you who do not know, this tune was written really in response to me coming out,” said singer TJ Osborne, joined at the podium at the pre-telecast premiere ceremony by his brother, guitarist John Osborne.
“And I never thought I would be able to do music professionally because of my sexuality,” TJ Osborne continued. “And I certainly never mind I would be here on this stage accepting a Grammy after having done something I felt like was going to be life-changing, potentially in a very negative way. And here I am tonight, not only accepting this Grammy award with my brother, who I devote so much, but I’m here with a man that I love and who loves me back. I don’t know what I did to find so lucky.”
