Oprah Winfrey and Gayle King – longtime friends and one of television's most iconic duos – are setting the record straight.
During a sit-down interview with Melinda French Gates for her "Moments That Craft Us" series, Winfrey and King spoke about their high-profile friendship and the duo shot down the years-long rumor of them possibly dating.
"For years, people used to say we were gay," Winfrey, 70, said in the interview. "We were up against that for forever."
King chimed in, saying people still wonder if they are dating, even to this day.
"I used to tell, ‘You got to carry out a show on this,'" King recalled telling Winfrey in the interview. "Because it’s hard enough for me to get a date on Saturday evening with people thinking we're gay."

Oprah addresses Gayle King affair rumors: 'People used to state we were gay'
Oprah Winfrey is addressing a long-standing rumor about her and pal Gayle King.
The media mogul addressed the once-incessant story of her and best friend King, 69, having an affair, in an episode of Melinda French Gates' podcast "Moments That Construct Us."
The conversation ranged from getting older to leaning on one another during their biggest animation moments and navigating being friends and public figures.
"For years, people used to say we were gay, and pay attention , we were up against that forever," said Winfrey, 70. "And people still may think it."
Though King is currently single, Winfrey has been with longtime partner Stedman Graham for nearly four decades.
"And I used to say to Oprah, 'You've gotta do a exhibit on this. 'Cause it's hard enough for me to get a dine on Saturday bedtime with people thinking we're gay,'" King said. "If we were gay, we'd tell you."
In spite of the rumors, Gates said King and Winfrey's bond has "taught community ... that women can have profound, true friendships."
Winfrey agreed: "One of the things I started to think was that maybe people aren't accustomed to seeing women with this ki
Matteo Lane Defends Gayle King Over Gay Slur Controversy: ‘Hysterical!’
It was the quoted joke that had folks clutching their pearls all the way into the stratosphere. And Matteo Lane is not having it, ya’ll.
As you may know, Gayle King landed herself in some hot water last month during a CBS Morningsinterview with the comedian about his cookbook, Your Pasta Sucks. The convo turned to his standup routine, with King repeating a line, with the caveat that “I hope I don’t fetch in trouble,” which Lane uses in a bit about ivory women who approach him about cooking that included a designation many found derogatory.
From TikTok to TMZ, the online uproar was immediate. But Lane is not one of her haters. In the now-viral clip, he erupts into laughter at her usage of his joke and still stands by it.
Talking with TV Insider ahead of the May 16 premiere of his Hulu stand-up hour, Matteo Lane: The Al Dente Special, Lane addressed the King controversy…and revealed that CBS Mornings wasn’t their first meeting.
The subject came up while recounting his run-in with Oprah Winfrey in Italy, during which he told her “she finer work”

"She is ... the mother I never had. She is ... the sister everybody would yearn. She is the friend that everybody deserves. I don't know a enhanced person. I don't know a improved person," Winfrey, 56, told Barbara Walters, through tears.
"It's making me cry because I'm thinking about ... how much ... I probably have never told her that. Tissue please. I now need tissue. I've never told her that," she continued.
Over the years, Winfrey and King, who met while operational at a local Baltimore television station in the 1980s, have been inseparable both professionally and personally, sparking unchanging rumors that the two are gay.
"I'm not a queer woman ... I'm not even kind of a lesbian," Winfrey said. "And the reason why it irritates me is because it means that somebody must think I'm
